Education is surely one of the critical topics among the Bulgarian society. Currently we are facing the result of its decay, but the good news is that many people are trying to fix that. There is a great success story of a small team eager to do something to support the online education.
Izpitai.me (literally, “test me“) is an online platform for students to prepare for standardized tests and exams. There are more than 10,000 Bulgarian students who use this service to support and develop their knowledge in maths, Bulgarian grammar, geography etc.; And also to prepare for the upcoming exams after 6th, 7th and 12th grades. I remember when I was at that age: not only that there wasn’t such thing yet, but 2 years later a friend of mine got kicked out of class in Sofia University because of writing down her notes on a laptop…
Why is Izpitai.me really smart? Here are several good points – some available, some in development:
+ The system automatically checks students work, grades it and ranks their performance against that of all other students using the system;
+ Teachers can add tests there, examine their students and help them improve the results;
+ Parents can also keep an eye on their children’s stronger skills and support working on them (rather than wasting time on education which won’t make their kid happy);
+ Students can learn online – something which was really missing in my school and university years.
+ The team is simply brilliant – software architects and engineers like Nikola Borisov, Ivan Anev and Emil Ibrishimov with great experience and education abroad in combination with strategic planning specialist like Pavlina Borisova-Bensen. They also won an Empower United Young Entrepreneur award last year.
What’s next? The team works on instant improvements of the platform functionality and content. This Autumn is rather important for the team, because of being the first one since Izpitai.me is live in Bulgaria. Also this autumn they are launching – smarttest.me – an international platform to help students all over the world prepare for US and European university entrance exams.
